TwonkyMedia
(Scroll down for install guide)
Sadly TwonkyMedia is not opensource nor free like many of the other servers which are readily available.
TwonkyMedia currently costs almost 30euros, you are able to try it for free for 30days though to see for your self if it is worth it.
The TwonkyMedia website lists the follow:fre
- Easy to setup
- Support for major media formats
- Convenient navigation on large media collections
- Very fast response time
- Multiple language support
- Highly customizable (including navigation structure)
- Easy handling of thousands of media items
- Internet radio
- Interfaces to third party applications like iTunes, Winamp, Adobe Photoshop Album
- Search actions allow you to easily find a specific piece of content (depending on client support)
- Supports a large variety of UPnP streaming clients
- Integrated client adaptation layer to support special media player capabilities
- Available for all operating systems and embedded devices like NAS, STBs and PVRs*
- Small footprint and low memory consumption
- Stable code base deployed in various products and tested at UPnP and DLNA plugfests
I personaly find the web interface somewhat fiddly and hard to use and the "internet radio" option does not work on my ps3. I do not know if this is TwonkyMedia's fault or my PS3.

- On the choose components screen just select the defaults by clicking Next.

- On this screen, you may choose what you like.
If you choose to install TownkyMedia as a system service, it will start automaicly when you switch your computer on, you will not have to login and then run it.
For this guide i will not do this but you can if you like it makes no difference in testing and can be done at a later stage.
- On this screen also just accept the defaults (unless you want to put it somewhere else).

- Next screen, start menu folder you can choose not too if you are going to use the system service.

You may see some cmd promts flash open, this is pretty crude but they are setting up the rules needed for the firewall to allow the application etc.

You should see 3 boxes with text in them, we are interested in the video one.
mine is C:\Users\jack\Videos (Yours will be different and may be along the lines of c:\Documents and settings\jack\videos\)
The goal here is to place videos into this folder.
Note: You can change this folder on the config page to another folder which you already have videos in.
PLease note you *MUST* click rescan content directorts if your media is not showing up

- Press O on your ps3 to go back a level - then select "all videos" (Or if confused basicly step 12 and 13)
You should see what ever videos you put into your Videos folder!!
- Select a video to play by pressing X. in my case i will select the Butterfly video.
Video controlls should be the same as playing a regualr dvd.
If the video format you have used is not supported by TwonkyMedia the playstation will let you know.
Thats it!
