Why?

If you currently only use your play station 3 to play games you are missing a whole world of media experiences which are so easy to tap into.

Picture this, Your 60inch LCD 1080p HighDef TV and your lovely PS3 sitting under it, Imagine having a choice of watching 1000s of movies/tv shows with out leaving your seat to swap discs.

You pick up your PS3 Media Remote Control/Your PS3 controller, you press that PS logo wait for it to boot up, now what? Go to the Video section, Click on your PS3 Media Server's name.

Now what do we see? A list of all the videos that the Playstation has access too play INSTANTLY! Wirelessly? Hassle free? Yes!

Sure you could put these movies directly onto your PS3's harddrive, let me know how many you get onto your PS3's 40gb harddrive. Sure you could upgrade your PS3s harddrive but for most of us this is not an option - We already have our movies on our current computers which have massves of cheap storage already.

Why not just connect your computer to your TV then? A fair question, benfits of connecting your Playstation 3 to your TV compared to your computer are found mostly in the PS3 proccessing power. It takes a fairly beefy computer to playback true 1080p HD content, the ps3 has 8cpu cores and handles this with zero effort.

While streaming media to the playstation 3 is not an option for every one, nor is it the best option for everyone it is worth considering.
